Pakistan’s largest digital bank
Mobilink Microfinance Bank Limited (MMBL) is Pakistan’s largest digital bank with over 37 million registered and 14 million active digital wallets. Backed by VEON, MMBL started operations in April 2012 and launched branchless banking operations later in the same year.
With a hybrid organizational model that combines traditional microfinance with mobile banking technologies, MMBL now operates with over 100 branches nationwide, approximately 2,000 employees, and offers a wide array of simple yet, innovative digital banking products and services for customers.
MMBL is making significant contributions towards promoting financial inclusion in Pakistan by using the latest digital banking technologies and is committed to serving millions of people across the country who remain unserved or underserved by the traditional banking channels. MMBL’s digital financial ecosystem has further been complemented by the recent launch of its mobile platform, DOST, which facilitates banking on the go and is a one-stop solution for all its customers' digital banking needs.
MMBL’s strong strategic focus lies on empowering Pakistani women, who constitute 49% of the country’s population but have significantly low financial inclusion figures to date. Through its flagship Women Inspirational Network (WIN) program, MMBL seeks to enable more and more women through several banking products and services specifically designed to facilitate female entrepreneurs and business owners.
Along with a powerful gender diversity and inclusion (D&I) agenda that shapes MMBL’s external and internal operations, the organization is also helping differently-abled individuals achieve financial empowerment. MMBL’s Humqadam program, launched in 2020, onboards differently-abled individuals in the organization for 3-months of intensive training focused on building their technical and professional skillsets, giving them valuable exposure to the corporate working environment and providing them with opportunities for permanent employment at the organization.
In addition to being the largest digital bank in the country, MMBL is also recognized in Pakistan as a reputable digital thought leader and trendsetter in the banking industry. Through the 9-Point Agenda for Financial Inclusion, launched in 2021, MMBL provided an extensive overview of the financial inclusion landscape in the country and set forth practical, actionable recommendations for regulators, policymaking bodies, the private sector, and relevant stakeholders focusing on delivering an impactful, positive change.
Since its inception in 2012, MMBL has received several national and international awards recognizing its services in the banking sector. MMBL was the recipient of the prestigious 'Bank of the Unbanked Award' from the Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP) for two years consecutively in 2018 and 2019. Earlier in 2021, MMBL received the 'D&I Leader' award by The Professionals Network, the ‘Gender Diversity at Workplace – Banks’ award from CFA Society Pakistan, and the 'Best Retail Bank in Pakistan' award from the Retail Banker International Asia Trailblazer. Moreover, MMBL has also registered an extraordinary feat of being the only bank in Pakistan, microfinance or commercial, to secure a ‘Positive’ credit rating from the Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA).
