VEON endorses UN report on Global Broadband Policy
Amsterdam, 27 February 2018 - VEON Ltd. (NASDAQ: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a leading global provider of connectivity and internet services headquartered in Amsterdam and serving more than 240 million customers (VEON), has endorsed a new report unveiled at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2018 “A New Deal: Investing in Our Common Future – Policy Recommendations to Close the Broadband Gap”.
The report by the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development contains recommendations for governments, policymakers, regulators and the private sector to address the “unacceptable, persisting digital exclusion” of half the world’s population. The report addresses four key themes: a healthy investment climate; lower infrastructure supply costs; better functioning ICT markets; and liberating demand for the wider digital economy to encourage supply and investment.
Formed of private sector and government representatives, including Mark MacGann from VEON, the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development was called upon to identify specific steps that need to be taken to close the ongoing gap in broadband coverage and usage.
